until 30.04. | #1340ARTatBerlin | Guidi presents from 29th April 2017 the group exhibition ‘Art for Art’s Sake’ at Kühlhaus in Kreuzberg with works by the artists Romina Bassu, Jake Blake, Daniele Lora, Jackson Mann and Haocheng Wang.
Following an open call for artists working in painting, sculpture, photography, video, performance, virtual art, and music, the eclectic Tuscan tannery and hand-crafted shoe manufacturer, GUIDI, presents the exhibition, ‘Art for Art’s Sake’.
An esteemed jury has selected 5 artists from among 130 applicants to present their work in the exhibition. Italian painter Romina Bassu’s works deal with the proximity between individual and collective memory, through her familiar renderings of nameless faces. Jackson Mann is a designer and maker, working primarily with wood and steel, whose work ranges from abstract installations to functional furniture. New York-based artist Jake Blake creates drip paintings that draw on a dark iconographies and make use of textured materials like snake skin in the process. JC Wang’s at once somber and playful installations pose questions about time and masked everyday societal controls, while Daniele Lora’s geometric and textured tapestries are instant design world classics.
This is the second time that Guidi has endeavoured to support emerging artists, after presenting an exhibition of French photographer Laurent Segretier’s work in New York City last year. For 2017, they have broadened the selection of artists by introducing an open call and jury format.
The group exhibition will open with a pizza and natural wine reception from 7pm until midnight at Kühlhaus. Artworks will be projected in the former industrial space, with sculptures and sound installations placed throughout the concrete-walled venue. The exhibition opening will feature a DJ set with electronic music to fit the tone of the space.
