For Gallery Weekend 2024, the Contemporary Show Room CSR.ART presents from 25 April 2024 the solo exhibition RESTRISIKO with figurative paintings by the up-and-coming Leipzig painter Gustav Sonntag. The exhibition presents a haunting collection of works that deal with themes such as obsession, addiction, violence, resignation and homelessness. Gustav Sonntag shows himself to be an artist who does not look away, but looks closely with a remarkable emotional closeness and captures the dark sides of the human condition on canvas. RESTRISIKO is organised by CSR.ART, Berlin, in collaboration with Galerie Holger John, Dresden. The exhibition opens with a vernissage on 25 April at 7 pm at CSR.ART, followed by an after-show party (registration link below) at DEEDS.SALON from 10.30 pm in the basement of Galeries Lafayette. The VBKI Prize BERLINER GALERIEN is entering its eighth edition. The application phase for the VBKI Prize BERLINER GALERIEN 2024, which is endowed with a total of 15,000 euros in prize money, has begun: Berlin galleries with three to fifteen years of business activity are eligible to participate. The VBKI BERLINER GALERIEN prize is now recognised far beyond the borders of Berlin and will be awarded for the eighth time in 2024 by the Verein Berliner Kaufleute und Industrieller (VBKI) and the Landesverband Berliner Galerien (lvbg) with the generous support of the Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises. On the 160th anniversary of the birth and 80th anniversary of the death of the Berlin painter and graphic artist Julie Wolfthorn (1864 – 1944), many works are returning to the Berlin public. So far only a few works are accessible to the public in Berlin, one in the Nationalgalerie and one in the Berlinische Galerie. Alfred Ehrhardt Stiftung is showing the exhibition Hamburger Hafen und Norddeutsche Küste by the artists Alfred Ehrhardt and Rolf Tietgens from 13 April 2024. Rolf Tietgens (1911-1984) is considered one of the most important photographers of the 1930s, but he is still only known to a few in this country. His work fell into oblivion after he emigrated to New York at the end of 1938, threatened with persecution as a homosexual artist in Germany. As he never returned to Germany, his work remained forgotten for a long time. Today, his book Der Hafen, which was published by the renowned Heinrich Ellermann Verlag in 1939 to mark the 750th anniversary of the Port of Hamburg, must be counted among the best photo books of the 1930s. Tietgens masterfully utilises the vocabulary of “New Vision” to lend the images a symbolic dimension from a personal perspective. Since 24 February 2024, the disused Stadtbad Lichtenberg in Berlin has been transformed into a venue that appeals to lovers of digital art and history buffs alike. The 96-year-old former swimming pool is currently being re-staged and made accessible through a collaboration with over 30 international artists. The exhibition Stadtbad RELOADED offers visitors to Stadtbad Lichtenberg the opportunity to explore the former premises of the swimming pool in a new way until mid-May. From the former women’s swimming pool to the changing rooms and the historic staircases, the Stadtbad Lichtenberg will be filled with digital art by over 30 artists and collectives. This is due to the tight budget situation. In the exhibition Loot . 10 Stories, initiated by the Mauritshuis in The Hague, the Humboldt Forum presents from 22. March 2024, ten case studies focused on looted art across three historical epochs: the Napoleonic Wars, the colonial era, and Nazi Germany. All the objects on show have their own provenance stories, which here stand in for countless others. In an artistic intervention, guest curators and creative directors Eline Jongsma and Kel O’Neill bring these stories to life using videos, virtual reality, and texts, showing possible approaches to objects like these in the museum context. Some of these artefacts are from Berlin collections in the Stadtmuseum Berlin, the Ethnologisches Museum, and the Gipsformerei (Replica Workshop). On February 26, 2024, the artist Ruth Wolf-Rehfeldt died in Berlin at the age of 92. Wolf-Rehfeldt’s work dealt with the areas of visual poetry, typewriting and mail art. The Berlin gallery ChertLüdde published this obituary for the artist and contemporary witness. Ruth Wolf-Rehfeldt was an extraordinary artist. The renowned institutions of the Kunstmeile Hamburg welcome the Kunsthaus Hamburg as the sixth member of their association from 1 April 2024. Georg Kolbe Museum presents a live performance and, from March 15, 2024, the exhibition No Time to Dance with works by Noa Eshkol, Yael Bartana, Omer Krieger, Sharon Lockhart and Ayumi Paul. The Israeli dancer, choreographer and artist Noa Eshkol has spent her life exploring movement and composition. The result was dance without music and textile arrangements: she created minimalist choreographies, captured in a complex graphic movement notation and color-intensive tapestries. The Freunde der Kunstsammlung (Friends of K20 K21), in cooperation with the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen and thanks to a generous financial support from the Reydan + Roger Weiss Foundation, award the new annual art prize K21 Global Art Award. It is supported by the substantive and operational performance of the Kunstsammlung and is an example of the creative and sustained approach of the Friends in supporting the endeavours of the Kunstsammlung. The annual K21 Global Art Award celebrates the vision and courage of emerging and mid career artists. It will be offered to internationally recognized artists under the age of 45. The award highlights the museum’s mission to broaden the collection and acquires new work by artists from different regions in the world. Around 150 solo exhibitions in 12 years of gallery work are a reason to celebrate for the Berlin gallery Semjon Contemporary and gallery owner Semjon H.N. Semjon. On 7 March 2024, the gallery is presenting a special auction to mark the occasion. 53 artists from the gallery are supporting the gallery by donating one or more works with the sole aim of having it auctioned in the charity auction for the benefit of the gallery. This gesture of solidarity demonstrates the artists’ willingness to support their gallery even in times of acute crisis and to contribute to ensuring the gallery’s continued existence for a further period of time. Sung Tieu (*1987, Hải Dương, Vietnam) is a Berlin-based German-Vietnamese artist. She studied at Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Hamburg and Goldsmiths College, London, before completing her postgraduate program at the Royal Academy of Arts, London. She has received numerous awards, including the ars viva Prize 2021, Frieze Artist Award 2021, and the audience award of the Preis der Nationalgalerie in 2021. In 2024, she will be awarded the 9th Rubens Promotional Award of the City of Siegen. The Finnish Tampere International Film Festival will take place for the 54th time from 6 to 10 March 2024. The five-day event will once again bring together film lovers and industry professionals in Tampere, the third largest city in Finland. During the festival week, more than a hundred film screenings will take place at Finnkino Cine Atlas and Arthouse Cinema Niagara. The Berlin gallery Dittrich + Schlechtriem is presenting the performance “The Cards You Were Dealt” by artist Monty Richthofen from 22 February to 24 February 2024. From 13 February 2024, the Berlin Gemäldegalerie will be presenting a focused selection of paintings from the Odessa Museum of Western and Eastern Art. The occasion is the second anniversary of the Russian attack on Ukraine. The presentation is the prelude to a major special exhibition that will show paintings from Odessa together with works from the Berlin collections from January 2025. From 10 February 2024, the Neue Nationalgalerie will be showing Lucy Raven’s video installation “Ready Mix” (2021), which focuses on work, technology and the hidden mechanisms of power. The expansive installation in the upper hall of the museum is located within direct sight of the “berlin modern” construction pit and establishes a visual and thematic link to the monumental construction site of the new museum building. Despite good intentions and the shame of flying, many people use the aeroplane, whether out of convenience, habit or the belief that they can do little to change the overall situation. School of Casablanca is a collaborative project between ifa-Galerie Berlin, KW Institute for Contemporary Art (Berlin) and ThinkArt (Casablanca), supported by the Sharjah Art Foundation, the Goethe-Institut Morocco and Zamân Books & Curating. From February 2024, the Hamburger Bahnhof will be bringing international female artists to Berlin and inviting them to “In Conversation”, a dialogue with the public, on the first Saturday of every month. 2024 Berlin celebrates one of the greatest portrait painters of all time: Alongside Rembrandt and Vermeer, Frans Hals is one of the most outstanding Dutch painters of the 17th century. The Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen is showing the first survey exhibition of the British artist Isaac Julien (*1960 in London, lives and works in London and Santa Cruz/California) in Germany in its House of Contemporary Art K21. The Städtische Galerie Wolfsburg has extended the extensive solo exhibition “Der Weg des größten Widerstandes” with new works by Fabian Knecht until 2 June 2024. The Berlin-based artist’s work and actions are currently determined by the war in Ukraine. In the presentation in Wolfsburg, he deals with the topic in a powerful way using the media of installation, painting, video and performance. Since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression in 2022, Knecht has been part of the Ukrainian resistance and has travelled to Ukraine several times as a volunteer. His journeys have taken him directly to the front in Kharkiv, Isyum, Kiev, Chernihiv and Odessa, among other places. With When Disaster Strikes, the Kunsthalle Münster is showing works by British artist Dominique White for the first time in Germany. White’s works play with memory and metamorphosis. In their unpredictable forms, the vanished finds its way into the rooms of the Kunsthalle. The sculptures represent the materialisation of black life beyond its subjective boundaries, as lighthouses or vessels of an ignored civilisation. The current three-week presentation is a re-enactment of the work conceived especially for the Neue Nationalgalerie in 1998. The German sculptor Ulrich Rückriem (born 1938) donated his main work “40 Floor Reliefs” to the Nationalgalerie in 1998. Rückriem is known for his massive stone sculptures, often divided into sections, and in 1998 he laid out 40 square slabs in the empty glass hall of the Neue Nationalgalerie. These “40 Floor Reliefs” became part of the Nationalgalerie’s collection and were shown in variations in 2004 and 2009. On the occasion of the 250th birthday of Caspar David Friedrich (1774 Greifswald-1840 Dresden), the Hamburger Kunsthalle presents the anniversary exhibition CASPAR DAVID FRIEDRICH: Art for a New Era from 15 December 2023 to 1 April 2024. It offers the most comprehensive exhibition of works by the important Romantic painter for many years. At the centre of the exhibition is a thematically oriented retrospective of over 60 paintings – including numerous iconic key works – and around 100 drawings. The exhibition in the Scharf-Gerstenberg Collection is dedicated for the first time to the artistic relationship between the French surrealist André Masson and the Berlin artist Ernst Wilhelm Nay, whose art became the figurehead of abstract modernism in post-war West Germany. André Masson’s (1896-1987) large-format painting “Massacre”, which is the starting point of the exhibition, was created in 1931. A year later, it was published in large format by Christian Zervos in the magazine “Cahiers d’art”. On a formal level, this painting and a series of other paintings and drawings by Masson from the same period bear striking similarities to works by Ernst Wilhelm Nay (1902-1968) from the 1940s. It is only at the moment of disruption that our attention is drawn to the nature of the technical media that surround us every day, but without pushing themselves to the fore. As one of the youngest and most unpredictable art forms, glitch art specifically focuses attention on the productive side of the flawed. First used in the 1950s in the technical jargon of radio and television technicians, the term “glitch” (early New High German “glitschen” – to glide, to let glide – or Yiddish “gletshn” – to slip, to slide away) soon described programming or graphic errors in the context of computer games. The artist Leon Löwentraut (born 1998) will be awarded the Ernst Barlach Prize 2023 for Fine Arts on Friday, 1 December 2023. The prize has been awarded by the Ernst Barlach Gesellschaft Hamburg since 1995 to draw attention to particularly innovative artistic positions. The jury, chaired by Dr Jürgen Doppelstein, Museum Director and Chairman of the Ernst Barlach Society, unanimously decided in favour of 25-year-old Leon Löwentraut. Heinz Mack is one of the most important artists of the 20th and 21st centuries. In 1957 he founded the group ZERO with the artist Otto Piene in Düsseldorf. Together with other international artists, they wanted to revolutionise art after the Second World War. With “Mack at the ZKM”, the ZKM | Zentrum für Kunst und Medien Karlsruhe is now dedicating a comprehensive solo exhibition to him with around 130 works from the period 1955 to 2023, including works that are being reconstructed and exhibited for the first time in a long time. The exhibition “Modigliani. Modern Views” at the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart is the first exhibition on Amedeo Modigliani in Germany for 15 years. Edvard Munch’s art is known for its haunting depictions of deep human emotions. However, his fascination with nature plays an equally important role in his works, which is now being thematised in an exhibition for the first time. “Munch. Life Landscape”, on show at Potsdam’s Museum Barberini from 18 November 2023, is dedicated to the scientific and philosophical influences on his work and explores his oeuvre as a resonance chamber for today’s climate crisis. From 21 November, the Lehnbachhaus in Munich is devoting itself to the Paris years (1954-1967) of the German painter and graphic artist Günter Fruhtrunk. The exhibition illuminates his explosive phase of life and work in the context of Franco-German art relations in the 1950s and 60s. At the same time, the Kunstmuseum Bonn is presenting a Günter Fruhtrunk retrospective, which will later be shown at the Museum Wiesbaden. In 1981, a caricature that has become famous appears in the magazine “Stern”: Federal Chancellor Helmut Schmidt, in the midst of the East-West conflict, sits, between vodka and coke, on the sofa in the Chancellor’s bungalow – under a painting by Günter Fruhtrunk. A year before his death, Fruhtrunk, a professor at the Munich Academy, was considered a leading representative of concrete art in the Federal Republic. The art of the second half of the 20th century is characterised by a diversity of materials, media and methods. At the same time, hardly any other era was so marked by division and turmoil, but also by renewal: “Zerreißprobe. Art between Politics and Society” is the title of this collection presentation of the Neue Nationalgalerie on art after 1945 up to the turn of the millennium. Holocaust and war, awakening and emancipation, Cold War and the fall of the Wall led to tensions within society as well as to fundamental realignments in the visual arts. The title is based on the radical performance by the Viennese actionist Günter Brus in 1970, in which he exposed himself to the pull of steel cables to his physical limits. 14 chapters take up central artistic and social themes of the 20th century, such as the question of realism and abstraction, politics and society, everyday life and pop, feminism, identity or nature and ecology. Using the means of painting, sculpture, photography and collage, the exhibition Night Swimming at SCOTTY from 18 November 2023 will shed light on the role of material in the translation and documentation of records and information. The participating artists use a variety of materials to track the accumulation of time or capture fleeting moments and events. This results in works that can be both memorabilia and translations, and together form an archive of fluctuating objects, snapshots and material or visual accumulations. The title of the exhibition, “Night Swimming”, alludes to the experience of having to find one’s way in a dark and vast space while only being able to perceive what is in the immediate vicinity. The memory of spaces that were once seen in the light, the instability of buoyancy and the constant movement when swimming in the dark reflect the disorientation and vulnerability of memory in the works in the exhibition. Clear understanding seems close enough to touch, but eludes us like a world veiled by water and darkness. It is a turning point in the history of art: Renaissance painting. From 2 November 2023 to 18 February 2024, the Städel Museum is devoting itself to this fascinating epoch of art. Dorothea Lange’s exhibition at the National Gallery of Art in Landover, Maryland “Seeing People” explores how Lange’s portraits have shaped our understanding of documentary photography today and what significance they had for her vision and creative practice. Divided into six thematic sections, the exhibition starting in early November 2023 features portraits ranging from her early career as a studio photographer in San Francisco – the earliest work dates from 1919 – to her powerful coverage of the Great Depression and expressive photographs of everyday people and communities in the 1950s and early 1960s. For as long as cinema has existed, posters have been central media in the communication of film: they bring cinema to the streets and arouse emotions on a grand scale. The exhibition “Great Cinema. Film Posters of All Times” presents 300 original film posters from the 1900s to the 2020s from the graphic design collection of the Berlin Art Library. Contemporary guests from the film and cinema industry are involved in a curatorial capacity. Graphical short formula A film needs a poster – even in digital times it is the most important medium of visual communication. A good film poster is advertising and art at the same time: it condenses the plot of the film into a single concise image, captures the atmosphere and introduces the protagonists. It arouses curiosity without revealing too much. In short, film is translated into graphics, including all the emotions of “big cinema”. The extension of “Secessions. Klimt, Stuck, Liebermann” in the Alte Nationalgalerie until 5 November 2023 offers everyone who has not yet seen the exhibition the opportunity to visit it again. For the first time, it is dedicated to a comparison of the three art metropolises in Munich, Vienna and Berlin at the turn of the century. With the dawn of modernism, the artistic avant-gardes pushed for freedom in terms of content and institutions. Numerous artists of the new art movements of Symbolism, Art Nouveau and Impressionism were first presented at the highly regarded Secession exhibitions. The Neue Nationalgalerie shows the exhibition Kraftfelder by the artist Judit Reig since 30 June 2023. On the occasion of the centenary of the artist’s birth and the donation of three major works by Judit Reigl, the Neue Nationalgalerie is presenting the first solo museum exhibition of the Hungarian-French artist in Germany. With the donation, the Nationalgalerie is the first public collection in Germany to own works by the important painter, who was closely associated with French Informel in the 1950s. With this overview of Reigl’s oeuvre, the Neue Nationalgalerie dedicates itself to one of the most important European painters of the second half of the 20th century. On display are sixteen, mostly large-format paintings from the simultaneously abstract and figurative oeuvre of Reigl (1923 – 2020). Hamburger Bahnhof presents the first retrospective of the painter and sculptor Lee Ufan in Germany. Lee is one of the most important representatives of the Mono-ha school in Japan and the Dansaekhwa movement in Korea, which developed parallel to other minimalist art movements. The exhibition shows around 50 works from five decades of his creative work. No other painter in the history of European art was able to reproduce the details of his reality with comparable brilliance and precision as the founder of Old Netherlandish painting: Jan van Eyck. An interactive digital projection now makes it possible in the Berlin Gemäldegalerie to immerse oneself in the tiniest subtleties of his masterpieces. Tall firs, dense mangroves, bizarre flower pistils – the plant world produces unique forms. Integrated into complex and highly sensitive ecosystems, plants are intertwined with human culture in many ways. Their contemplation can be calming, thought-provoking or trigger strong feelings of trepidation and fear. In photography, plants have been popular objects of photographic processes and experiments since the beginning of the 19th century. The exhibition “Grünzeug. Plants in Contemporary Photography”, on view at the Berlinische Galerie from 12 October 2023, takes up this multifaceted theme. From 30 September 2023 to 25 February 2024, the Deichtorhallen Hamburg will present a major exhibition on Otto Dix and his influence on art up to the present day. For the first time, Dix’s oeuvre from the time of the Nazi dictatorship will also be comprehensively presented, a time when some of his works were considered “degenerate”. From 23rd September 2023 the Museum Ludwig presents the exhibition Material und Mode (> Material and Fashion) in honour of Walde Huth (1923-2011). She worked with textiles and fabrics throughout her life as a photographer. Starting with commissions for the velvet factory Gottlieb Ott Sohn in the early 1950s, among others, she made the leap to becoming a fashion photographer of international designers of the “New Look” such as Christian Dior or Jacques Fath. The Uferhallen are an important production and presentation venue for art and culture in Berlin and house studios, dance and rehearsal rooms, sound studios, a concert hall and an exhibition hall, workshops, gastronomy and versatile event spaces. More than 150 cultural workers live and work on the premises and with several hundred visitors every day, the Uferhallen are a central place of cultural exchange and an integral part of Berlin’s cultural scene and urban society. After years of struggle for the continued existence of the Uferhallen, which are representative of displacement and gentrification processes in the neighbourhood and the entire city, a solution for the preservation of the cultural location is now emerging after renewed protests and negotiations between the senate and the owners, although its continued existence is still not secured. Edvard Munch’s (1863-1944) radical modernism in painting challenged his time. This was especially true of the Berlin art scene at the turn of the century, on which the Norwegian symbolist had a great influence. The exhibition “Edvard Munch. The Neue Nationalgalerie is the festival venue for this year’s Berlin Art Week (BAW) from 13 – 17 September 2023 and is hosting a performance festival for the second time on the occasion of BAW 2023: PERFORM! with works by Yoko Ono, Göksu Kunak and many more; admission is free. This year, the Neue Nationalgalerie is the venue for the festival meeting point BAW Garten, for which a temporary artistic installation made of trees has been created on the terrace in collaboration with atelier le balto. “If the Berlin Wind Blows My Flag” takes a look at the artistic scenes in West Berlin before the fall of the Wall through the history of the DAAD’s Berlin Artists-in-Residence Programme. As part of the residency programme, international cultural workers were invited to the city from 1963 onwards to save West Berlin from “cultural isolation”. An exhibition in three chapters – at the n.b.k., the daadgalerie and the Galerie im Körnerpark – as well as events at the Akademie der Künste shed light on the role the programme played in the formation and networking of artistic practices during the Cold War and question its cultural-political orientation. The focus is on the activities of the Berlin Artists-in-Residence Programme, which was founded 60 years ago by the US-American Ford Foundation and continued by the DAAD from 1965 onwards, especially with regard to the politically motivated background of the intended internationalisation of the West Berlin art scene. The Berlin Atonal Festival  at Kraftwerk Berlin spans two weekends of concerts and club nights with world premieres, one-off shows and unexpected performances from some of the most interesting artists working in the multidisciplinary world of transnational culture today. In between the two weekends of concerts, there will be an exhibition and concert programme called Universal Metabolism, which transforms the festival into a series of performative interventions. The exhibition, called Universal Metabolism, is also part of the Berlin Art Week. All aspects of the festival, including the exhibition, will take place in the impressive Kraftwerk complex, including the Tresor Club, which is based there. 10 years after its revival, Atonal continues to pioneer experimental culture in all forms, and with this edition presents its most diverse and ambitious project to date. The Museum Folkwang in Essen is the first public institution in Germany to receive the Tiemann Prize. It was able to convince with its application for a group of works by the Berlin-based painter Armin Boehm (*1972) and will receive the purchase budget of 50,000 euros on 3 November 2023 at a ceremony in the presence of the artist and the donor couple Tiemann at the Museum Folkwang in Essen. The newly established award is aimed directly at museums and art institutions and enables the expansion of the respective collection through the purchase of contemporary painting. In her solo exhibition at Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin-based artist Nadia Kaabi-Linke explores hidden traces of violence that shape history and the present unnoticed. The exhibition confronts historical erasures and examines the role of censorship and violence in the history of art and politics in Central Europe. At the centre is the project “Blind Current Extracts” (2023), which refers to a collection of paintings censored and confiscated by the Soviet secret service in the 1930s. Today, the collection is housed in the National Art Museum of Ukraine. The end of a Kassel summer traditionally includes the Museum Night in September, which will now take place for the 18th time. On 2 and 3 September, a popular and versatile cultural format returns after the documenta break and two years of alternative formats due to the pandemic. For the first time in Dresden, the Gerhard Richter Archive of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden (SKD) is showing a selection of Gerhard Richter’s overpainted photographs. Of the 72 works in total that will be on display in the Albertinum from 26 August 2023, 36 come from the holdings of the Gerhard Richter Art Foundation, founded by the artist in 2019, and 36 from private collections. Mall of Anonymous provokes a double dichotomy by using both the undermined conditions of the museum and the mall. Museums are currently the subject of widespread criticism as they are seen as representations of authoritarian mechanisms throughout history or as institutions that enable obscure dependencies with interest groups. While the shopping mall occupied a significant part of public space in the 20th century, this form of architecture is gradually becoming obsolete, leading to the term “dead shopping malls”. In the Schinkel Pavilion, both types of space are interwoven and charged with the narrative of Shayne Oliver’s own biography. Since 8 July 2023, the Museum Barberini in Potsdam shows its own Dutch form of Impressionism: Wolken und Licht (Clouds and Light) presents around 100 works by artists ranging from Vincent van Gogh to Piet Mondrian that have hardly been shown in Germany to date. The exhibition Clouds and Light. The music of the Berlin artists ranges from experimental sound to hard beats and reflects the vibrancy of the city. Ellen Allien will kick things off on Friday, 16 June with a DJ set and the premiere of the video work “After Dark”. In her solo exhibition The First Finger (chapter II), Tolia Astakhishvili (*1974 in Tbilisi, Georgia) transforms the Haus am Waldsee in the course of an expansive installation. In addition to structural interventions, drawings, paintings, text and videos, the exhibition includes new collaborative works with Zurab Astakhishvili, Dylan Peirce and James Richards as well as contributions by Antonin Artaud, Alvin Baltrop, Kirsty Bell, Nat Marcus, Vera Palme, Andreas Rousounelis, Judith Scott, Ser Serpas and Giorgi Zhorzholiani. With “URBAN ENCOUNTERS – URBANE BEGEGNUNGEN”, CSR.ART Contemporary Show Room presents from 21 June 2023 a multimedia group exhibition with photographs by 15 artists* and a video work. On 18 June 2023, the action days “READY STEADY GO: Museums inclusive!” will start on the Museum Island Berlin. For a whole week, the Museum Island will be a meeting place for athletes and sports enthusiasts from all over the world who are visiting Berlin for the Special Olympic World Games. Workshops in the Kolonadenhof and exhibition talks invite you to explore the museums. All offers are planned inclusively, in simple language and accessible without barriers. Teams of people with and without disabilities will guide the participants. Participation is free of charge. The action days are part of the READY STEADY GO: Museums Inclusive! project, which the National Museums in Berlin have been implementing since the beginning of 2022. KW Institute for Contemporary Art presents its 2023 summer programme, which continues to explore the self and its representation. An example of this is the sculptures of Enrico David, who critically explores the autonomy of the body in its various stages of not being and becoming, and the works of Emily Wardill and Hervé Guibert, who each explore what lies beyond the reach of an image. the three artists will be shown in three separate solo exhibitions at KW Institute for Contemporary Art. The exhibition is the first institutional solo show of Enrico David (*1966, IT) in Germany and is dedicated exclusively to his sculptural practice. David works with sculpture, painting, textiles and installations, with drawing also playing a central role in his exploration of form. On 8 June 2023, the founding meeting of the GCC (Gallery Climate Coalition) Berlin e.V. was celebrated at the Neue Nationalgalerie. The international initiative is dedicated to building knowledge about sustainability in museums and resources for local art institutions. Co-initiator is the artist Haley Mellin, currently Max Beckmann Fellow at the American Academy together with the Neue Nationalgalerie. As part of the founding of the association in Berlin, the website Barder.art was launched, through which Berlin art institutions can coordinate the sharing of resources and materials. With the founding of the association, GCC (Gallery Climate Coalition) Berlin e. V. is now the first official offshoot of GCC in Germany. GCC is an international association of art organisations with the aim of jointly reducing the environmental impact in the art business. GCC’s main goal is to reduce CO2 emissions in the arts sector by at least 50% by 2023 and to establish zero-waste practices. The 19th European Cultural Days (11.06.-09.07.2023) of the Museum of European Cultures (MEK) and the special exhibition “Buzzing Slovenia. A sketchbook by Max Liebermann (1847-1935) from the art collection of the Akademie der Künste with drawings of garden locales on Wannsee will be restituted to the artist’s descendants on 5 June 2023. It is thanks to their kindness that the sketchbook can subsequently be reacquired against payment of a compensation sum. During provenance research in the art collection, it was discovered that the inside cover of the sketchbook contains an estate stamp with Max Liebermann’s facsimile signature. It was acquired in 2005 at an auction of a Munich auction house. After Liebermann’s death on 8 February 1935, his widow Martha Liebermann put this stamp on all of the artist’s unsigned works. An important milestone for the new construction of the Pina Bausch Zentrum in Wuppertal-Elberfeld has been reached. In the competition for the new building of the Pina Bausch Centre including the listed Schauspielhaus and Sopp’schen Pavillon, the jury awarded three prizes on 1 June 2023. As part of an exhibition in the Schauspielhaus, which is to become a central component of the future centre, all interested parties can get a picture of all eight participants’ entries in the final round from 7 to 18 June 2023.
