On Friday, 9 January 2026 at 7 pm the exhibition “Phantome” by Polish artist Dominik Lejman opens at St. Matthäus Church at Kulturforum Berlin. Curated by Hubertus von Amelunxen, the exhibition brings together around 20 works spanning nearly three decades and presents Lejman’s distinctive fusion of painting and video as a site-specific exploration of perception, presence, and transience.
Since the 1990s, Dominik Lejman has developed an artistic practice in which moving images are projected onto abstract and figurative paintings. The canvases function as temporary surfaces for appearances that emerge and fade away. This overlay of static painterly structures and time-based media creates fragile visual constellations in which figures appear like phantoms—ephemeral, unstable, and yet intensely present.
