Galerie Pugliese Levi is pleased to present new works of Chinese artist Xiaohua. The artist continues drawing with her stitching work on canvass and on paper. She introduces additional textile elements to extend the space of the canvass and to give shape to her visions. The new series of oil paperworks “Tiger and Lion” in intense shades of dark red colour is also shown along with larger scale works.
There is a tiger
and a lion
One speaks the truth
the other hears it as a lie
And there is also an eagle, between them
a fable starts.
Xiaohua was born in Suzhou, China, in 1986. Following studies at Suzhou Art & Design Technology Institute, professional work as an editor and extensive travel, she began to study painting at Chinesisch-Deutsche Kunstakademie in China in 2012 and moved to Berlin in 2013 in order to continue her studies at Berlin University of the Arts (UdK). She graduated in Fine Arts and obtained a “Meisterschüler” title in 2016. Xiaohua currently lives and works in Berlin.
Since 2012 she presented her work in a number of solo exhibitions including “Snow, Slow” at Galerie Pugliese Levi (2017), “Marrakech, and the town in there” (Gallery OVO, Taipei, 2017), “Walk unafraid” (Tabula Rasa Gallery, Beijing, 2016) and participated in several group exhibitions in Germany and China. Her work was also presented at a number of art fairs such as Art.Fair (Cologne, 2016), Asia Now Paris (2016), Art 021 Shanghai (2016) and Art Central Hongkong (2016, 2017).
