In search of natural reflections on glass, which in their condensation tell of the coexistence of human life, Franziska Stünkel has been travelling with her Leica through numerous countries and continents for over thirteen years. Charged to the highest complexity, her atmospheric and at the same time documentary photographs are the visualisation of the commonalities and contrasts that exist in our diversely networked world at all times.

Galerie Jarmuschek + Partner presents the photographic work of Franziska Stünkel in two solo exhibitions in Berlin in February 2023:

Franziska Stünkels neueste Werke der Künstlerin unter dem Titel COEXIST – LOCAL GLOBAL werden ab dem 14. Februar 2023 in der Galerie Jarmuschek + Partner präsentiert. Für diesen sechsten Teil ihrer Serie COEXIST fotografierte Franziska Stunkel von 2020 bis 2022 unter anderem in Berlin, Sydney, Doha und Chicago. Besondere Rahmenbedingungen und ungewöhnliche Herausforderungen bestimmten häufig den Kontext ihrer Reisen und so klingen die bis heute aktuellen weltumspannenden Themen wie der Umgang des Menschen mit der Natur, mit der Pandemie und den digitalen Einwirkungen in den neuen Bildern subtil und intensiv an.

In cooperation with the CSR.ART-Contemporary Show Room at the centrally located Friedrichstraße 67-70 (Berlin-Mitte), Jarmuschek + Partner will also be presenting a large selection of remarkable works from the entire body of work COEXIST, for which Franziska Stünkel photographed in Asia, Africa, Europe, America and Australia, for the first time from 16 February. Without any digital post-processing, over 150 sensitive photographs of reflections have been created, revealing a multi-layered view of the highly topical global question of coexistence in our present.

The artist 

Franziska Stünkel (*1973) is an internationally awarded photo artist, film director and screenwriter. She studied fine arts at the University of Fine Arts Kassel.
After her diploma, she became a master student of Prof. Uwe Schrader. Her photographs can be seen in museums, art institutions and galleries and are represented in numerous collections, including that of the Sprengel Museum Hannover. Among the awards for her photographic work are the Audi Art Award and the Berlin Hyp Art Prize. Her illustrated book Coexist was published by Kehrer Verlag in 2020.

Franziska Stünkel’s films have been shown in 19 countries at over 170 film festivals and have won several awards. Her feature film Nahschuss (The Last Execution), starring Lars Eidinger, Devid Striesow and Luise Heyer, was released nationally and internationally in 2021/2022 and featured in competition sections of renowned international film festivals.

Photographs from the COEXIST series by Franziska Stünkel are shown in the illustrated book of the same name published by Kehrer Verlag in 2020. The photographs are complemented by text contributions on the topic of “coexistence” by renowned authors and scientists from various fields, including artificial intelligence, biology, psychology, linguistics, culture and fear research.
