Kay Rosen MAPPINGS, 2017
12 silkscreen prints on MultiCard 1S 350g paper
Each 35 x 25 cm
Edition of 25 plus 2 AP, 2 PP, 1 EP

MAPPINGS (2017) is a series of twelve silkscreen prints on cardboard which each map out, letter by letter, a word or phrase that begins and ends with the same letter. For example: Cul de Sac, Memory of a Dream, Lonely Street Heartbreak Hotel, Ocupado… The closed circuits formed by the black lines connecting the gray letters also allude in some way to the meaning of the text. Small gold circles mark the outset and culmination of the pathways.

Kay Rosen UH OH PERIOD, January 20, 2017
Silkscreen print on MultiCard 1S 350g paper
50,8 x 40,3 cm
Edition of 25 plus 2 AP, 2 PP, 1 EP

UH OH PERIOD (January 20, 2017) is an orange and blue portrait created out of the letter sounds of that utterance – U and O – plus two periods. Does the figure with its U(h) O(h) features represent a crazy-eyed Trump who is in over his head? Is it us reacting to a future under Trump? Do the periods depict us trapped in a crazy vision in Trump’s head? Or do they mark “the end,” as a period does, or an interminable era of Uh Oh’s?

Kay Rosen SHORT STORY *, 1993/2017
3 silkscreen prints on MultiCard 1S 350g paper
Each 45.72 cm x 66 cm
Edition of 25 plus 2 AP, 2 PP, 1 EP

SHORT STORY * (1993/2017) recounts an economical and succinct little tale of only three words, ADD, AND, END, exhorting its nine letters to create drama from a verb, a conjunction, and a noun. A minimal, almost subliminal, operation of displacing one letter in each word, allows ADD to systematically transform itself into a brief generic narrative, generating a middle and end out of its simple, unspectacular origin. SHORT STORY * first appeared in a text image project titled “(B)coming (A)part” for DU Magazine, Zurich, 1993.

These three new edition projects will be accompanied by a selection of color drawings by the artist from 2003 to 2008.

Kay Rosen’s recent solo exhibitions include The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, CT, USA, and Sikkema Jenkins Gallery in New York, USA. An upcoming Solo show will be taking place at Barbara Krakow Gallery, Boston, USA.

Vernissage: Friday, 28th to Sunday, 30th April 2017

Exhibition period: Friday, 28th April to Saturday, 29th July 2017
