until 26.02. | #3296ARTatBerlin | Galerie Guido W. Baudach shows since 11th January 2022 the exhibiton Formalisierung der Langeweile (Formalization of Boredom) by the artist Jürgen Klauke in the Backstage of the gallery.
The first contribution to the new exhibition format BACKSTAGE in 2022 is a work by Jürgen Klauke. It belongs to his game-changing cycle of works Formalisierung der Langeweile (Formalization of Boredom) from 1980/81. In the three-part photo sequence, the artist himself and another darkly dressed young man are seen attacking a whitewashed brick wall with various weapons, holding a pistol to its chest and driving an axe into it. In the process, the two appear highly concentrated, making the already enigmatic scene even more absurd. The triptych, exhibited as a rare vintage print on baryte paper, has a conceptual as well as an almost sculptural feel. In an almost exemplary way, it shows how Jürgen Klauke, at the end of the 1970s / beginning of the 1980s, switched from the gender theme that had characterized his first self-performance works to existential questions, whereby the provocative travesties of the early work, committed to the glam rock era, were replaced by a prosaic post-punk aesthetic.
BACKSTAGE is a format launched at the beginning of the pandemic, within which Galerie Guido W. Baudach regularly highlights special individual works and series by one or thematically selected works by various artists, independently of the regular exhibition programme and both physically in the gallery showroom and virtually online on the website of the gallery.
