until 12.02. | #3297ARTatBerlin | Galerie mehdi chouakri shows from 15th January 2022 the exhibition “Die Aussage ist: Das Verhalten des Materials zur Häufigkeit seiner Wiederholung” (> The statement is: the behavior of the material to the frequency of its repetition”) by the artist Peter Roehr.

Peter Roehr (1944-1968) was a German painter and object artist. In January 1968, together with the gallery owner and collector Paul Maenz, he opened the store “Pudding Explosion” in Frankfurt / Main, which, according to the two owners, offered “psychedelic food with hippie accessories”. It was the first store in Germany to offer such a wide variety of political, spiritual and ironic articles, from incense sticks to the Peking Review.

When the artist died of lymph gland cancer in August of the same year at the age of only 23, he left behind an exceedingly impressive artistic œuvre of over 600 works. The complete archive with films, notes, letters, manuscripts and the artist’s estate list was bequeathed by Paul Maenz to the Museum für Moderne Kunst (MMK) in Frankfurt / Main in 2011. It can be viewed online.

A structure of order, not a composition. A surface is filled with similar objects, one cannot distinguish them. The image has no place of event, it happens everywhere.

Peter Roehr, 1965

The exhibition will be shown in the gallery rooms in Mommsenstraße (Bleibtreustraße 41, entrance Mommsenstr. 4).

Opening: Saturday, January 15, 2022, noon – 6:00 pm
