until 13.10. | #0667ARTatBerlin | galerie gerken shows from the 2nd September 2016 an exhibition with kinetic artworks by Jan Bernstein and statuary by Voré.
We would like to cordially invite you to the opening of our next exhibition “Figuration – Konstruktion” of Jan Bernstein and Voré.
In mechanical perfection, Jan Bernstein’s kinetic artworks silently perform their day’s work: taking aim at themselves, blurring their own message consistently, travelling to another place within the duration of a minute or scratching a fine line into themselves. In a meditative fashion, they pursue their task and, in their cold, sensitive perfection, appear to be remote from the fallibility of human manners of functioning. This emerging distance is bypassed by Bernstein with an access to the technical assignment of each object, as the beholder is able to comprehend the idea a piece follows. Its movement and the subsequent alteration implies a contentual dynamic, which tells about a fragile balance between destruction and creation.
Voré’s sculptures are dealing with the tension between completeness and infirmity in aesthetic perception of material as well as contentual orientation. In its original environment, the quarry, Baumberg sandstone serves as a formal source of inspiration, which is preserved as a concept of non-finito in the following process of sculpting. The sensitive texture of the stone takes on subtle sculptural editing, creating a strong association with the characteristics of human skin: unscathed and scarred moments are chronicled in an intense dialogue of hurt and healing, whereas only both conditions together can depict the idea of wholeness in the fragmentary.
