until 01.10. | #3528ARTatBerlin | Jarmuschek + Partner shows from 23. July 2022 (Opening: 22.07.) the double exhibition LAYERS by the artists Eric Mangen and Artjom Chepovetskyy.

The Luxembourg-based artist Eric Mangen (*1983) used to create graffiti. Influenced by this, he now works primarily in the field of abstract painting. During a residency in Berlin in 2021, Eric Mangen began his current series of works on the basis of existing advertising posters, whose numerous layers he consciously brings out, recombines and overpaints. Like in a time capsule, the place and atmosphere with all its transient momentariness merge in these abstract wall works into a present, more permanent and highly individually associable image.

Artjom Chepovetskyy (*1984) was born in Odessa, Ukraine, and lives in Frankfurt am Main. He studied philosophy at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and art at the Mainz Academy of Art until 2016. In 2022 he received the Wolfgang Blanke Foundation Prize (international) for painting at JGU. Artjom Chepovetskyy works over and under chiffon stretched on wood. With layered paper surfaces he creates painterly levels and color fields that seem to merge with the transparent material and at the same time to hover within the frame.

What seems contradictory at first glance, reveals great similarities on closer inspection: In the powerful urbanity of Eric Mangen’s poster works as well as in the delicate materiality of Artjom Chepovetskyy’s works lurk fundamental questions about painting and an exploration of the limits of pictorial genesis. Layer by layer, this painterly dialogue makes it possible to dive through various degrees of abstraction into individually experienceable pictorial spaces…

Opening: Friday, 22. July 2022, from 6:00 pm. The artists will be present.

Exhibition dates: Saturday, 23. July – Saturday, 01. October 2022
