until 02.10. | #2828ARTatBerlin | CAMERA WORK presents the exhibition “15 YEARS – COLLECTED DREAMS” with photographs by artist David Drebin from September 5, 2020.

The exhibition takes place on the occasion of the artist’s 50th birthday and comprises more than 15 large-format photographs, including rarely exhibited major works such as “Movie Star” and “Dreams of Central Park”, new works and spectacular lightboxes. The photo book “Collectors Edition” (teNeues) will be published on the occasion of the exhibition.

David Drebin has been represented by the CAMERA WORK gallery for 15 years. During this time he has developed into an influential and important contemporary photographic artist. In the exhibition, which traces Drebin’s artistic development over the last 15 years by means of selected major works, visitors can gain an insight into the artist’s oeuvre.

David Drebin’s leitmotif is the depiction of women in connection with longings, fantasies and their relationship to the big city. In the photographs, the women are surrounded by an exciting and stimulating atmosphere that is unapproachable, unreachable and at the same time irresistible. Becoming a voyeur, the viewer enjoys a view into apartments and city scenes in which glamorous women are mysteriously staged. Drebin lets the viewer share in the women’s longings, dreams and hopes. Thus the artist succeeds in sceneries full of touching intimacy and closeness, combining humor, love, eroticism, loneliness and melancholy.

David Drebin’s cinematic visual language is also reflected in his epochal panoramas. From New York and Los Angeles to Paris, London and Hong Kong: the metropolitan panoramas, in their format a homage to Hollywood cinema, together with the imposing jungle of houses form an almost infinite projection surface for the variety of seductions and the loneliness of the individual in dealing with his thoughts and desires. The viewer can also experience modern sublimity in the form of the big city.
