until 01.09. | #2517ARTatBerlin | Galerie kajetan Berlin presents from 6 July 2019 the exhibition Beauvais with  sculptures, painting, drawing and objects by the artist Erich Reusch.

Both Erich Reusch’s time as a marine on a minehunter during the second World War and his work as a minesweeper at sea to earn money after the war, as well as his later passion for gliding prepared him with a knowledge of flow characteristic behavior, magnetism and dangerous situations respectively with an enthusiasm for aerospace and its energy, thermal lift and static charge.
With this experience and such knowledge, the works of the artist, who was educated as an architect and a sculptor, are closely related.
Since the beginning of his artistic practice, Erich Reusch has been tracking the qualities of space, that are not based on mass, gravity and matter, but on the understanding of the space as a field of force filled with different energetic qualities.
With Erich Reusch, the space becomes the incidence. His works sharpen our awareness of the space in which we find ourselves. These are not only the interior space, but also the architectural structure of our cities, landscape space and the cosmic space.

Reusch was also one of the first artists to work with kinetic and acoustic elements as well as laser and ultrasound. He used water and wind as invisible forces of energy acting in space.
In 1957, Erich Reusch (born 1925) developed innovative floor sculptures that relate to and structure the surrounding space. Years before Carl Andre and Richard Serra, he detached the sculpture from its pedestal and abandoned its usual vertical orientation. Thus, Erich Reusch became a pioneering artist of international contemporary art. Particularly well-known are his “electrostatic objects”: works of art made of Plexiglas and black pigment particles, which react to the movements of the observer and the spatial conditions.
Reusch, who also worked as a painter and printmaker, was appointed Professor of “Integration Bildende Kunst und Architektur” (“Integration Fine Arts and Architecture”) in 1975 at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf (Düsseldorf Art Academy), where he taught for 25 years and worked as a deputy director for several years. Reusch realized numerous sculptures in public space. In 1977 he participated in documenta 6 with a large ground sculpture in Kassel, Germany.
Galerie kajetan Berlin is pleased to present a selection of works by the painter, draftsman, sculptor and architect Erich Reusch.
