until 20.05. | #1122ARTatBerlin | Brutto Gusto Fine Arts presents from 17th March 2017 the exhibition “Tulip vases” by the artist Guido Geelen.

Guido Geelen (Thorn, NL, 1961) is a pioneer in the world of ceramics. His brutal, unorthodox sculptures push the boundaries of the discipline, giving a new impulse to a traditional material. His work is simultaneously contrary and challenging, playful and attractive: a daring balancing act between prickly obstinacy and benevolent seduction.
With a healthy dose of irony, he transforms a cow’s head of biscuit-fired red clay into a bizarre flower vase or decorates classical console figurines with cheap decals of romantic landscapes.
Vases – and tulip vases in particular – are a recurring element in his oeuvre. Early versions are decorated with blue Delftware patterns or take the form of a life-size cast of a man, roughly dismembered and almost serenely adorned with tulips. In his latest series, he has been guided even more by the material – clay – and has restricted the forms to stacked blocks with the simple addition of glass test tubes in which the tulips dance.

Exhibition period: Friday, 17th March to Saturday, 20th May 2017
