until 22.04. | #1124ARTatBerlin | C&K GALERIE shows from 11th March 2017 the exhibition “Ausrichten” by the artist Jan Muche.

With “Ausrichten” (Alignment), we present – for the first time – Jan Muche in a solo exhibition of his current architecture-based art. Additionally we will display a large sculpture made of filigree, mostly yellow-painted wooden sticks, which creates the impression of a 3D version of his paintings. The exhibition is complemented by a series called “Spiegelgasse”, subtle images which he created explicitly in the spirit of Dadaism – following Duchamp’s readymades – using old pictures found at fleamarkets.  The artist is an avowed collector with an interest in the experimental, which mainly materialises on the canvas in the form of colour and structure. In his search for motifs the artist browses antiquarian books, art books, architecture catalogues, the world wide web, and last but not least the history of art itself. Images that interest him inspire his painting: the found images move the artist so strongly in the direction of pattern and ornament, that they dissolve into a wealth of graphic structures and colour field textures. His motifs can not be assigned either temporally, spatially or situationally. They literally evolve out of the depths of the canvas. Here controlled coincidence plays a role. Muche combines acrylic, ink, charcoal and glazing technique with boat varnish, pours paint, works with ash: popping colours (yellow, green, orange) meet colourfields that almost look dirty and porous.

Jan Muches’ motifs oscillate between supposed likeness and a constructivist view of reality through singular perspectives and colours. The artist is not concerned with content, he does not want to tell a story, he is a free spirit, and leaves us to explore the free space independently.

At the same time as the exhibition at our gallery, the IG Metall Berlin will present works by Jan Muche from March 17 to May 12, 2017 in its showroom with the title “Aufrichten”.

Jan Muche was born in 1975 in Herford (Nordrhein-Westfalia), he studied painting at the HdK (now University of Arts) in Berlin, 2006 Meisterschüler with K.H. Hödicke, 2011 visiting professor at CDK Hangzhou / China.
