until 28.05. | #3376ARTatBerlin | Salongalerie Die Möwe presents from 26th March 2022 an exhibition by the sculptor Wolfram Beck.

The Berlin artist Wolfram Beck (1930-2004) left behind an extensive and multifaceted œuvre as a sculptor, draughtsman and painter. The exhibition presents sculptures, assemblages, drawings and paintings. Wolfram Beck was a master of aesthetic rigour and precision craftsmanship with a high sensitivity for the treatment of the respective material such as wood, steel, bronze, acrylic and stone.

Wolfram Beck began his artistic career with an apprenticeship as a wood sculptor with Bauhaus student Wilhelm Löber. From 1955 to 1960 he studied at the “Hochschule für Bildende Künste” in Berlin with Prof. Paul Dierkes, whose master student he became.

His works initially included large organic wooden works, portrait busts and torsos in clay and stone. As a freelance artist he realises commissioned works for foundations, companies and the programme “Kunst am Bau” as well as the film and television award “Goldene Kamera”. In the 1970s Beck created strictly geometric and airy-filigile assemblages from mechanical and electronic components that could be moved by drives or by hand. In addition, he created colourfully accentuated and fragile-looking objects made of metal and acrylic.

Large-format detailed drawings from this period go far beyond model sketches. Colour-intensive abstract-constructive paintings by the artist from the 1980s and 90s often appear three-dimensional due to their spatial depth. Here Beck transfers three-dimensional compositions into two-dimensionality.

The main feature of all his works is the extremely precise and careful handling and processing of a wide variety of materials. Every motif can be found in sketches, paintings, sculptural models and in sculptures. One gets the impression of an almost infinite variety of forms and motifs that are nevertheless interrelated.
