until 20.04. | #2402ARTatBerlin | Galerie EIGEN + ART Berlin shows from 21st March 2019 the solo exhibition Album by the artist Uwe Kowski.

For Uwe Kowski, painting as an experience is always in the foreground, not the depiction of a motif. His landscapes are not so much representations of spaces or perspectives as attempts to arrange color on the canvas, to place bright surfaces next to dark ones, and to evoke sensations through the combination of different tones of color. Kowski knows exactly about the play of light in modernist painting, he juxtaposes pointillist spots of colour in well thought-out contrast-compositions to make his pictures shine.

He puts an idea into each picture in advance, which he invents about what he sees, and then leaves it to the viewer to make his way through the pictures, to enter their whirlpools and to reappear elsewhere. Perhaps in this process they will come across the idea underlying each picture, perhaps a new one will emerge. The titles can serve as impulses, causing one’s own memories to flare up and overlap with those of the artist.
