until 13.08. | #3430ARTatBerlin | BBA Gallery presents from 11. June 2022 (Opening on 10.06.) the exhibition HOLY SHIT by the artist Sven Windszus.

Sven Windszus is a Berlin-based digital, mixed media, and installation artist who “loves to make things move”, according to himself. With his participatory installations, he lets viewers become part of his works by inviting them to interact with the individual worlds he creates in each of his works through provocative call-to-actions. In his upcoming exhibition “HOLY SHIT” at BBA Gallery, the artist presents his most recent works, which feature political and socially relevant themes with such pointedness that it is almost shocking.

A confessional that literally shows us the ‘sins’ of our everyday lives; a dog skeleton encased in gold that blurs the boundaries between creation and artificial intelligence; a confined space that rapidly fills with water and human heads threatening to drown at the flick of a pump – Windszus’ creativity and critical observations know no bounds. Aesthetically, the artist convinces with a contrasting approach: he often combines or counteracts old vintage objects with the latest digital technology.

Windszus’ examination of the phenomena of war, suffering and destruction in light of the current events in Ukraine seems particularly touching. His installation “24/7” aims to illuminate the “banal madness and contradiction” of eternal bloodshed from an unexpected perspective. The viewer looks into a weapons case, which is equipped with a digital animation that takes one’s breath away. Far from moralising, Windszus’ installations aim to encourage viewers to participate, try things out and, above all, to critically reflect on their own actions through the use of interactive concepts and the integration of everyday digital gadgets.

As winner of the BBA Artist Prize 2021, “HOLY SHIT” represents the artist’s first solo show at the BBA Gallery and indeed anywhere. Sven Windszus is a true exceptional talent and a great discovery.
