until 13.08. | #3471ARTatBerlin | Galerie Schindler in Potsdam shows from 2nd June 2022 the exhibition GEFLUTET with the latest works by the artist Su Weiss.

In the current exhibition GEFLUTET in the GALERIE SCHINDLER Su Weiss shows paintings that have been created over the past half year. Starting from plein air painting, landscapes have developed in the studio, which represent mood images and draw the viewer into them, as it were. The suction effect is strengthened by the expressive colorfulness, the unusual color combinations and the associated abstraction processes.

Above all, the element of water and the horizon can be found thematically in many of the paintings. In mythology, water stands for the origin of all life and renewal, as well as for transformation and destruction. In connection with the horizon, a longing for something eternally valid also seems to emerge in the pictures. Feeling, as in Romanticism, seems to be given precedence over reason.

Flooded now also appear some rooms, which in earlier pictures looked rather static and calm. Architectural surfaces, pillars and walls dissolve, as it were. Structures lose their continuity and sharpness. Everything seems to flow, through the water and its power of renewal. Existing dissolves, transforms to make room for the new.

Su Weiss moves with her painting between the poles of quiet color surface painting, to shimmering acrobatics, which symbolize, as it were, the pulsating energy of nature. With large, wide brushes are used to place surfaces next to small particles that were previously applied with chalk and ink pens. All paintings evolve from the application of layers and the interplay of plein air and studio work.

“Painting in nature is an immediate dialogue with the elements that reveal themselves. In the studio, this is further developed to the point where the painting functions as its own independent organism.”
