until 12.10. | #4367ARTatBerlin | Galerie Schindler in Potsdam presents from 5. September 2024 the exhibition Ligne de Base by the artist Su Weiss.
Su Weiss has dedicated herself to the classic themes of interior and landscape painting and uses them to question subjective projections and general perceptions of memory, emotion and reality. The focus is not on the pure reproduction of reality or narrative, but rather on the creation of memory and the transmission of a feeling that lies beneath the surface. What remains visible are dense, atmospheric layers of interior and exterior spaces.

The horizon often constitutes the ligne de base (base line) in the picture. It appears – usually as a high horizon – in the landscape paintings, but is also visible in interior depictions – when looking through the window. It plays a central role in Su Weiss’s work, not only compositionally but also symbolically. As a metaphor for longing, freedom and the transcendental, it emphasizes a profound, philosophical meaning. At the same time, it organizes the pictorial elements in the picture and ensures calm. While much in Su Weiss’ paintings seems to be in motion, it is a constant: balance and baseline at the same time.
