After severe water damage, Galerie ART CRU Berlin is presenting works at greatly reduced prices in a “string exhibition”. During the installation the gallery is also open on Sundays. On 04.11.2019 the non-profit gallery had to close its doors for 3 months. A neighbour had observed water flowing out of the entrance door. After the police and fire brigade had pumped off the water, which was up to 20 cm deep, the gallery management and the team were faced with a terrible sight. Dozens of pictures, stored in folders, were completely soaked. In addition, other works, which had been placed on the floor for hanging the next day, were an easy prey for the water. After viewing and assessing the disaster, it became clear that the gallery had suffered enormous financial damage. This was followed by weeks of clean-up work: unpacking, draining, pressing with absorbent blasting cartons. Paper works were also partly hung on clotheslines to dry in the gallery.

For the “STRIPPENAUSSTELLUNG”, works of some gallery artists are presented in a room-sized installation. In this large SALE, pictures that have been affected by the water are offered. The exhibition includes works by artist duo Uwe Paulsen & Emiehl Päffel (Museum für Outsiderkunst, Schleswig), Achim Maaz (died 2014, Bonn, pictures from the estate), Norbert Backner (Offenes Atelier St. Hedwig), Concetta Cassarà (died 2018, Bologna, Italy), THI THU (died 2008, Berlin, born in Laos) and Katinka Kaskeline (Berlin).

The gallery would like to take this opportunity to thank all the support it has already received, especially the Paritätischer Wohlfahrtsverband Landesverband Berlin e.V., the members and other friends of the gallery.
