The third exhibition in the SchauFenster series, which takes place in the showroom windows at KVOST – Kunstverein Ost, is by the Romanian artist duo Silvia Amancei & Bogdan Armanu.
Together. Forever. In Debt is a declaration of love and a reflection on being together, mutual bond, obligation and responsibility.
The starting point is the personal situation of the artist duo, who, like many artists, reflect on the meaning and purpose of their artistic work and its objectives. These are fundamental questions that the current pandemic crisis only accentuates. They are questions about the art market and the commercial orientation of the work from which artists want to make a living. And questions about the intention and purpose of the work, which somehow also wants to make the world a little better. In addition, questions from the shop windows out into the world. What is to be done? How can we strengthen cohesion, take our responsibility and assume mutual guilt?
Silvia Amancei & Bogdan Armanu already participated in the opening exhibitionBaywatch at KVOST in 2018. The artist duo, both born in 1991, have been working together in Iasi in eastern Romania since 2012.
Silvia Amancei & Bogdan Armanu:
Nothing will ever be the same again. It seems that there will be no return to “normality”. Surrounded by many crises and separated from each other by invisible threats, exhaustion and helplessness become the norm.
It is difficult to indicate the ways and tools to get out of this labyrinth of hopelessness into which we have fallen. The blind follow the blind. Through their personal crises and needs, all have become blind themselves and forget the bigger picture and the problems of the system. The system that continues to neglect the weak, overlook the other and support the continued accumulation of wealth of a few.
What is to be done? “I don’t know, but I love you” … “I love you too.”
