until 23.12. | #3652ARTatBerlin | Crone Berlin presents from 15. October 2022 (Opening: 14.10.) the exhibition „The Promise, The Lion, The Omen“ by the Israeli artist Sahar Zukerman.

Crone Berlin presents the exhibition The Promise, The Lion, The Omen by the Israeli artist Sahar Zukerman, who has been living in Berlin since 2009 and is a representative of the new post-digital and pop-iconographic art.

In his work, Zukerman uses certain figures that repeatedly appear in various constellations. He uses them as set pieces of a visual repertory theater, telling stories that can be read individually or as part of a larger whole.

These figures and motifs by Zukerman, from a lion and seahorse to a drum and lightning bolt, immediately catch the eye. They are striking in the best sense of the word: everything takes place equally on one level. The images are quickly perceived, striking, and colorful. In addition, there is a new technique that can be seen for the first time in the exhibition.

In the series of works, The Rare Winners, explicitly references the idea of trading cards. To play with their aesthetics, he paints them on holographic paper. Some of the paintings also have an iridescent layer of color.

The attractive surface is one side of Zukerman’s artistic methodology. The selection of motifs, on the other hand, testifies to an intensive examination of the world, its texture, and its millennia-old symbolism in terms of content.

Zukerman’s expansive, painterly gesture unites biblical, political, and pop-cultural themes. He draws on a wide range of historical and entirely new symbols. In doing so he reminds us that long-told stories are not so far removed from our contemporary canon of values amid consumerism and capitalism.
