until 27.10 | #2140ARTatBerlin | galerie burster presents from 26th September 2018 the group exhibition Forms of Staying  with positions of the artists Peter Bialobrzeski, Henriette Kriese and Nina Röder.

What does the nature of places look like when we stay, stay or live?

No transit rooms or identity-less buildings – but the home, the home, whether voluntarily chosen or urgently sought – is at the center of this exhibition.
In forms of staying meet three photographic positions that show perspectives on temporary homes, family possessions and self-built dwellings.

Against the background of the development of Asian megacities, the work of World Press Award winner Peter Bialobrzeski shows people’s desire for a home. In his series Case study homes and The raw and the cooked you will find the will to survive and creativity in the garbage-built accommodation of a slum and in the self-made vernacular architecture, which is based on human dimensions and uses existing building materials.

The series If you have to go, you still want to stay in the house of Nina Röder’s deceased grandparents before it was sold. As Sudeten German refugees and part of the war generation, the two have all their life lifted everything and almost nothing thrown away. Their house in the Franconian Windsbach, where they lived after their escape for over half a century, acted as the center for Röder’s family. Thus, this work not only examines the aesthetic plurality of collected objects of her grandparents, but shows with the stylistic device of absurdity a possible approach to loss, grief and remorse.

Along with the so-called refugee crisis in 2015, the attacks on refugee shelters had increased dramatically. For two years, Henriette Kriese traveled across the whole of Germany for her series out of fear for the beautiful and visited some of these crime scenes. The resulting photographs do not function as conventional crime scene images, they are rather an examination of the question of how to deal with the places after the attacks and which traces can still be found two years later.

Vernissage: Wednesday, 26th September 2018, 7 p.m. – 9 p.m.

Exhibition period: Wednesday, 26th September – Saturday, 27th October 2018
