until 23.04. | #3381ARTatBerlin | ARTCO Galerie Berlin currently presents the exhibition OPEN ENCOUNTERS with works by the artist Abdullah Qureshi in dialogue with works by Tasnim Bagdadi, Sara Khan, Syowia Kyambi, Natasha Jozi and Gloria Zein.
Toronto-based artist Abdullah Qureshi explores personal and collective histories, traumatic pasts and sexuality in his painting, film and cultural production. Incorporating autobiography as well as curatorial and collaborative approaches, Qureshi’s recent work explores forms of queer identity and resistance in Muslim migration contexts.
The exhibition takes both Qureshi’s work and his research projects as a starting point for a visual dialogue with other artists, theorists and cultural producers who are invited to participate with their work. In face-to-face 1:1 settings, Qureshi will meet old and new companions he encountered on his journey from Pakistan to Europe to Canada to discuss engaged collaborations, representation and collective memories.
Exhibition period: Thursday, 10th March – Saturday, 23rd April 2022
