until 28.02. | #1834ARTatBerlin | Galerie ART CRU shows from 2nd February 2018 an exhibition with embroideries by the artist Oliver Rincke.

Gallery ART CRU Berlin shows embroideries by Oliver Rincke. His works are powerful compositions of wool and yarn on corrugated cardboard with a rousing color effect. Since 2010, Oliver Rincke (born 1978, Berlin) is a member of the Thikwa Workshop for Theater and Art, has been successfully on stage ever since and works as a visual artist.

At first glance, the intense colors and extraordinary feel of the pictures stand out. They are powerful, direct and excessive without being aggressive or shrill in all their color intensity. This is prevented by the use of selected pastel shades. The impulsive, exciting and surprising motif world, which is intrinsic to the compositions, stifles every form of decorative sweetness in the core. The works of Oliver Rincke develop a direct and very unique effect, from which the public was able to convince themselves during our first collaboration with the artist at the POSITIONS Art Fair Berlin and the publication of one of his works in WELTKUNST. An unusual success for a newcomer, which we are now able to present in his first solo exhibition in our gallery.

Gallery ART CRU Since 2008, Berlin has been Berlin’s only gallery for so-called Outsider Art. This term (introduced in 1972 by Roger Cardinal as a synonym of the term “Art Brut” marked by the painter Jean Dubuffet in 1945) designates the art of people with psychiatric experience or mental health disabilities. We are convinced that the special perception of these artists is represented in unique works of art of high authenticity. With our exhibitions we present works by “outsiders” as an important part of contemporary art and thus want to stimulate an active discourse with the established art business. Located in the Kunsthof on Oranienburger Straße, the gallery brings works by people with special experiences right into the middle of Berlin’s art scene. The non-profit gallery ART CRU Berlin is sponsored by PS-Art e.V. Berlin, a network of various psychosocial institutions. Initiator of the project, director of the gallery and chairwoman of the association is Alexandra von Gersdorff-Bultmann.

On the occasion of the gallery’s fifth anniversary, a chronicle has been published containing the exhibition catalogs from 2008-13. In 2014, the gallery was first able to attend the Outsider Art Fair in Paris, the most important fair for outsider art in Europe. In the same year, five artists from the PS-Art e.V. Berlin network were nominated for the euward international art award. Since 2015, the gallery has been a member of the Landesverband Berliner Galerien (lvbg).
