until 03.11. | #2225ARTatBerlin | Grimmuseum shows from 26th September 2018 the Single Exhibition MOULT by the artist Merete Vyff Slyngborg.

It spun its silken cocoon and transformed into a pupa, which had its limbs and wings folded beside its body.
Ecdysis had ended, and the precise, circular hole of maturity led the way out in the open.
There was no dead wood in the new surroundings besides the circular sphere it had just occupied.

Instead it found itself in a moulded, concrete building where walls, floor and ceiling merged into one another in a perfectly, choreographed composition. It was like flying through a desert landscape with the dusty colours of the furniture and objects and the grey shade of the concrete: All placed in a neatly arranged order that abandoned all former historical hierarchies of architecture over content.

Merete Vyff Slyngborg’s practice is centred around curating, sampling, installation, interior design, and decorative arts. Drawing from an eclectic array of sources, including art- and design history, contemporary culture, architecture and current trends, the resulting works are rich with references and challenge our notions about the role of the artist by encompassing a wide range of visual forms.

Working as an interior stylist for the last four years, this field has influenced her practice and is also central to her exhibition at Grimmuseum. Here, Slyngborg uses her private home, which she and her partner artist Søren Aagaard have designed and built together. The house is a starting point for the works on display and serves as both studio and location for the photos and video as well as inspiration for the materials used for her sculptural work.
