until 02.07. | #3406ARTatBerlin | galerie probst presents from 7. May 2022 the exhibition “Essenz” by the artist May Carro Cabaleiro.

In “Essenz”, galerie probst presents for the first time works of art by May Carro Cabaleiro, born in 1961 in Galicia (northwest Spain), who seems to capture invisible energies in her works on paper in a magical way.

A warm bronze shimmer runs through the individual exhibition exhibits like a red thread and intensifies the radiance of the self-mixed colours, which Carro Cabaleiro layers with varying strength on a delicate paper support using a broad brushstroke. The carefully considered application of paint results in reduced and harmonious monochrome compositions composed of free and abstract forms. The compositions are partly reminiscent of organic elements, as well as natural processes of growth and strength, and have a movement that conveys an inspiring feeling. In this way, the traditional material of bronze, usually connoted with steadfastness and hardness, acquires a unique lightness and grace in the context of Carro Cabaleiro’s works.

Natural light also plays an elementary role in the effect of the picture, which the artist takes into account in her products and even tries to include. In order for the works on paper to be effectively activated by the natural rays, it is essential to make the carrier material appear “invisible”. Cabaleiro does this by gluing wafer-thin paper to a transparent synthetic plate. Both the paper and the plate are specially made. Carefully and precisely, she always matches the supports to the individual, sometimes large-format and sometimes small-format pictures.

May Carro Cabaleiro developed and perfected her outstanding craft techniques and her individual style in the course of her many years of artistic activity, to which she has devoted herself since completing her extensive studies. She completed her studies in “Bellas Artes” at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid in 1989 and her diploma in painting as a master student of Klaus Fußmann at the Berlin University of the Arts in 1993. Since 1986, the artist has exhibited her works in solo, travelling and museum exhibitions in cities such as London, Madrid and Berlin.

Carro Cabaleiro allows herself to be guided in the process of painting, falling into a meditative state that gives her inner peace and strength. The use of painting as a medium to reflect and articulate a state of consciousness plays a fundamental role for her. For this reason, the freelance artist, who lives in Berlin and works in Potsdam, also works as a painting therapist and teacher.

In the exhibition “Essenz”, the artist’s soothing visual language invites us to consciously reflect on the positive inner voices.

Opening: Friday, 6. May 2022, 600 – 9:00 pm
