until 20.11. | #3220ARTatBerlin | Galerie Inga Kondeyne – Raum für Zeichnung presents from 16th October 2021 a solo exhibition featuring works by the artist Marlies Appel.

From sheet to sheet, Marlies Appel curiously expands her new series of drawings from recent years. Under the title ‘fold and snow, the Jungfrau’ it can be seen in this exhibition.
to be seen. The first drawings of this phase were already made around 2016, when inner images of the early snow on the Swiss mountain ‘Jungfrau Joch’ did not let go of the artist.
When looking at the mountain massif full of crevices, she was overwhelmed by the different incidence of light and the shadow furrows that became dominant. But the memories of the folds of the robe of Jan van Eyck’s ‘Madonna in the Chamber’, which had been imprinted on her mind for a long time, were the real impetus for her to turn to the mountain massif.
Consciously worked out free colour fields, influenced by this impression of nature, which is significant for her, now enter into a connection with simply structured line networks in her drawings. Viewers sense the underlying experience of nature absorbed by the artist. The masses of snow on the mountain, the birds flying in formations, the play of clouds, everything is connected lyrically in the flow of the drawing.
