Klemm’s is presents Return to Content a/b, Julia Wachtel’s (b. 1956, lives and works in New York and Connecticut) first comprehensive solo exhibition in Germany. A collaborative project between Jahn und Jahn and Klemm’s, Return to Content a/b offers an expansive overview of Wachtel’s practice, shown across the two galleries in Munich and Berlin.

Julia Wachtel’s oil, acrylic, and silkscreen-on-canvas paintings explore the impact of our image-saturated world. Wachtel is a prominent figure among the Pictures Generation artists who emerged in early-1980s New York, brought together by a shared interest in the proliferation of images across popular culture, mass media, and advertising.

Return to Content a/b opens at Klemm’s in Berlin on September 10 and at Jahn und Jahn in Munich on September 17. Both exhibitions will be accompanied by a text by Jens Asthoff. The exhibition at Klemm’s will be on view through October 24, 2026.

In the context of Berlin Art Week, Klemm’s will host a public talk with Julia Wachtel, moderated by Philipp Hindahl. The talk will take place on Saturday, September 12, at 4 pm.
