until 18.04. | #4934ARTatBerlin | Galerie kajetan Berlin shows from Saturday, 14. February 2026 (Opening: 13.02.) the exhibition proof of existence by the artist Izabel Angerer.
Galerie kajetan is pleased to present proof of existence, the first solo exhibition of the Austrian artist Izabel Angerer (*1969) in its spaces. The exhibition gathers her most recent works on paper and aluminum, emerging from line, perforation, and a precise engagement with material. They occupy a space at the intersection of drawing, painting, and object.
Angerer’s practice is based on a focused yet open working process. Her densely placed lines testify to precision while being carried by minimal deviations; perforations accumulate progressively but never uniformly, shifting their rhythm and activating the support into a dynamic surface that can, at times, appear tactile.

The artist’s individual marks are never conceived as isolated gestures but always as parts of a sequence. Meaning arises from the temporal dimension of artistic creation—the continuous repetition, deviation, and spontaneity that shape each of the exhibited works.
Her theoretical point of reference is the thought of the pre-Socratic philosopher Heraclitus. His central notion that all being is in constant flux serves Angerer as a conceptual model. For her, a work does not exist as a timeless object, but as a carrier of actions that have passed, inscribed firmly in the material. Line, color, and perforation do not serve as representation but as markers of a temporal process; they refer to individual moments fixed in the work, resisting change.

In River (2025), this understanding is manifested in a delicate yet compact work on paper. Using ink, Angerer develops a pattern composed of numerous carefully placed lines. Their density produces a structure that rhythmizes the exposed support while simultaneously preserving time within the image.
In Synapse One (2025), the artist’s theoretical framework is also tangible. The work consists of a densely perforated lightweight aluminum plate. The material is partially raised and gently curves upward along the outer edges—a visible response to the artist’s interventions. The perforation is unevenly distributed: from the outer edges inward, the points become denser, finer, and more intricate. The result is a highly complex surface, a direct consequence of the time invested in its making.

Angerer’s works do not assert a closed image but carry highly concentrated traces of action, repetition, and the passage of time — they are the product of ongoing creation and, for the artist, her proof of existence.
In their reduced formal language and seriality, the works show a closeness to Concrete Art and Minimal Art. Whereas Concrete Art aimed at formal closure and Minimal Art emphasized industrial precision and fabrication, Angerer insists on handwork, material responsiveness, and the visibility of time. Her works also touch on postminimal and process-oriented approaches, without adopting a performative gesture.
