The exhibition “MAYBE I’M A FOOL” shows Holger Schmidhuber’s search for lost magic. He works with generative design tools and uses various AI systems to overtax the digital processes to such an extent that phenomena such as hallucination, amnesia and unconsciousness find ways to become effective in their own right. Ultimately, Schmidhuber returns to painting and surprises us with completely new mixtures, turning the “disenchantment of the world” into a fascinating enchantment.

Holger Schmidhuber’s work is characterized by cycles that are strongly influenced by his intensive exploration of the theme of “memory”. His cycles are directly related to each other and not only reflect his artistic development, but also serve as a transmitter of collective experiences and narratives.

In addition to his current works, Schmidhuber is offering insights into his archive for the first time with an impressive retrospective of the series “Controlled by nature”, “Bauhaus” and “Deathrow”, all presented on Aludibond.

During Gallery Weekend Berlin 2024, AOA;87 invites you to get to know the artist and view the exhibition in advance on the Thursday before the official opening. “MAYBE I’M A FOOL” will then officially open on Friday and there will be something to listen to on Saturday evening: A sound performance by Jarii van Gohl. The weekend ends with an art brunch on Sunday from 11:00 a.m., ideal for exchanging ideas with other art lovers.
