until 28.07./25.08. | #2103ARTatBerlin | Galerie Martin Mertens shows from 21st July 2018 the exhibition by the artist Haruka Hirai. The exhibition is devided into two parts: Superimpose (part 1) and Bookmark (part 2).

Before the Japanese artist Haruka Hirai (* 1985 Japan) begins to paint, she makes classical collages. The resulting compositions leave them lying for a long time and then finally start to paint them. Through this process, she does not want to formulate a methodology, but simply have enough time to find clues to be liberated from the alleged meanings of the image.

“Through my attempts to solve the unsolvable problem of painting, I have acquired a number of painterly methods. Nevertheless, I can let go any time for any further transformation, because the most important thing is that the process contributes to my investigation into the process of painting itself.”
