extended until 15.09. | #2763ARTatBerlin | drj art projects shows from 21st June 2020 the exhibition ÜBERTRAG with works by the artists Denise Winter and Hartmut Böhm.

“Dear friends, dear audience!

How do you announce an exhibition today that was planned for a different time? Not only regarding the date, but also the state of the world and its character? An exhibition that is now in a completely different situation than the one it was conceived for?

It opens seven weeks later than planned. Its title is ÜBERTRAG [Transfer]. And still, this refers to the artistic works, their contents, methods, techniques and effects. To the basic artistic concepts as well as to the resulting works themselves. In the exhibition they are positioned in relation to each other, and major differences between them are apparent. On the other hand, it also becomes clear that they are very close to each other. In particular, they are representatives of the time in which they were created.

The title ÜBERTRAG is thus directly related to the generations of the two artists Hartmut Böhm and Denise Winter. The exhibited works reveal how their authors relate to the issues of their time and the world around them: The world of art sixty years ago, when Hartmut Böhm [b. 1938, Kassel] began to operate within it as an artist, was definitely a completely different one than it is today. And Denise Winter [b. 1983, Berlin], almost a decade since she finished her studies, now claims her own position in a completely different environment, one that is above all constantly changing. This applies even to our content-driven segment of the art world.

The German term ÜBERTRAG in general means the total of a list that has been summed up at the end of the page. This is then placed on the next one as a starting point. From there it continues. This meaning was not meant for the exhibition as such. It was to be transferred to the art itself. But now it can also be applied to the first opening under Corona conditions at drj. One could perhaps say: Let’s turn a new page. Let us put the sum of our experiences from many years at the beginning of this new page. And let us start together to put new points underneath!”
