until 24.05. | #2396ARTatBerlin | Galerie aKonzept shows from 26th April 2019 the “Howling Exhibition” by the artist Guillaume Sebag (*1975).
This suite of 9 works shown in the aKonzept gallery is a demonstration of the coherence of the artist and the complexity of the composition of his images, which are far removed from failure. Guillaume Sebag extends to the extreme the risk of losing this spectacular and unique homogeneity of his works to the whole. We feel this physical, sensual quality of painting. Guillaume Sebag paints without a brush by mixing the colours of the tubes with his fingers directly on the canvas, which is firmly clamped to the wall and prepared with Caparol. The charcoal sometimes draws a contour or an isolated line or draws something almost figurative that blends in with the architecture. Sometimes the remains of charcoal are glued to the canvas, which is later mounted on a frame.
These moving, unstable works do not allow a close look, as they consist of several hearts that beat together, causing excitement in the audience. The eyes wander on the canvas or quickly stop at a confusing fragment to finally return to the discovered.
This ensemble of 9 paintings – the oldest from 2010, the most recent from 2015 – shows 5 years of work.
To mark this occasion, Galerie aKonzept is publishing 22 Plexiglas boxes, each containing an original drawing created by Guillaume Sebag for the event and a brochure depicting the 9 exhibited works and the 2 explanatory texts. The drawings are all signed, as is the brochure, which is also numbered from 1/22 to 22/22. The box set will be offered for sale from the opening day.
