until 22.10. | #3601ARTatBerlin | EIGEN + ART Lab presents from 9. September 2022 the exhibition “Doppelgängers” by the artist Esper Postma.
In his exhibition Doppelgängers at EIGEN + ART Lab, Esper Postma addresses the ambiguity of historicity so often found in urban space through the active design of public space beginning in the 19th century with historical monuments. These were mostly dedicated to identity-political goals instead of a re-creation of the past. In his sculptures Postma takes up this conundrum, which leaves behind the idea of a linear temporality, by juxtaposing artifacts that come from completely different points in time. In this way, he not only poses the question of the actual origin of the monuments, but even more so, he asks about the historical drama itself, which takes place in public space, and thus unmistakably shapes the perception and thus the mode of being of everyone who spends time in it.
