until 16.11. | #2615ARTatBerlin | Galerie Michael Haas presents the exhibition Gefährdende Spiele by the artist Dennis Scholl.

Galerie Michael Haas is showing new paintings by Dennis Scholl (*1980).

In Gefährdende Spiele (Endangering Games), Dennis Scholl sets out in search of the lost innocence of childhood. He reveals that an unspoiled youth is an illusion and that tragedy and cruelty hide behind every transfiguring memory. The artist follows this trail and makes memories visible while inviting the viewer to participate in the scenes like a “Peeping Tom”. Since the individual interpretation reveals far more about the viewer than about the artist, the images serve as a mirror for self-reflection and as a reminder for open contemplation of things.

Through his art, Dennis Scholl attracted attention early on. Already during his studies at the Hochschule für bildende Künste in Hamburg, which he completed in 2007, his works were shown in major institutional exhibitions – for example in the Hamburger Kunsthalle. Since then, numerous solo and group shows have followed in national and international contexts, most recently in New York City and at the Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation in Berlin. His work is represented in public and private collections worldwide.

While Scholl worked exclusively with pencil on paper for a long time, Gefährdende Spiele illustrates the metamorphosis from drawing to painting. With new pictures in crayon, charcoal and oil paint, the group of works offers an overview of the artist’s ongoing development.

A catalogue is being published.
