until 04.09.| #3130ARTatBerlin | Laura Mars Gallery currently presents the exhibition “slow burn de luxe” by the artist DAG.

Ludwig Mies van der Rohe is a phenomenon. In the midst of the rationalisation mania of modernism, with its machine aesthetics and efficiency mania, he created buildings and furniture that were neither practical nor industrially manufactured – he valued the aesthetics of the material, the beauty of craftsmanship and the timelessness of classical forms. And he made visible what the “gobbledygook” of ornament tried to hide: the house is a text. Syntax, symbol and function formed a guide for him of fixed and variable quantities. In the centre of Berlin, he built a Parthenon temple for art, with entablature, column capitals and stoa of black steel.

For the artist DAG, Mies van der Rohe’s consistency is a model inscribed in his formal structures of triangle, circle and square. DAG’s pictures do not represent anything and serve no purpose, they are mere text of structure and colour. With these means he wants to create agreement or contradiction. New things can arise from the energy of friction, patterns of thought and action can be questioned or confirmed.

DAG, Crystal-P, 2021, Mischtechnik auf Nessel, 80 x 80 cm

In constant change, fashions, colour experiments, forms of the day and basic attitudes are decisively influential. By working with text markers, which also serve designers and architects as working material, he can take away and add in his pictures. This mixture of solid form structure and the fragile colour superstructure is what makes a good work of art for him.

Opening: Wednesday, 18th August 2021, 1:00 p.m. -7:00 p.m.
