until 21.05. | #3388ARTatBerlin | ARTES Berlin presents from 2nd April 2022 the solo exhibition MALEREI (> PAINTING) with new works by the artist Christian Awe.
In the solo exhibition MALEREI, ARTES Berlin is showing more than 20 new works by the artist Christian Awe, whose oeuvre includes traces of Informel as well as influences of Abstract Expressionism. The artist’s works fascinate with their intensity of colour and their dynamism. With an almost dancing lightness and a painterly virtuosity, Awe combines colours and forms and creates a moment of freedom and joie de vivre for the viewer.
Abstracted forms draw a special measure of movement that literally pushes out of the picture and makes its surface tactile. In doing so, Awe explores the boundaries of painting time and again. Energetic streams of colour, powerful splashes and spontaneous, airy floating gestures cover underlying layers and form an exciting symbiosis in a dialogue of spontaneity, experimentation and artistic calculation. They unite to form poetically pulsating worlds of colour that sweep the viewer away into a cosmos of colours and emotions.
Christian Awe, Farbtanz, 2022, Acrylic on canvas, 130 x 180 cm
Whether on canvas, paper or on house facades several hundred square metres in size – Awe’s works are bursting with life-affirming colourfulness and impress with their radiance and finely nuanced liveliness. At the same time, his paintings exert an almost intoxicating fascination and attraction. Different levels, which already captivate at first glance and inspire inner perception, but which on closer inspection allow us to see and sense even more and always something new, give his works their very own rhythm and a depth of space.

Christian Awe’s complex compositions invite the recipient to embark on an inspiring journey of the senses. Explosive, yet controlled; powerful, yet at the same time full of sensitivity and lightness. In times of great social changes, Awe sets a creative sign full of optimism and confidence. The painter lives and works in Berlin and Palma de Mallorca.
