until 03.05. | #4609ARTatBerlin | Galerie Schindler shows from 13. March the exhibition SOL by the artist Berit Mücke.
The exhibition “SOL” by Berit Mücke at Galerie Schindler reveals a broad spectrum of artistic perspectives that are deeply rooted in light, sound and materiality. Born in Potsdam in 1968, the artist studied at the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig in the class of Wolfram Ebersbach and Neo Rauch, spent a year abroad at the Accademia delle belle Arti a Roma and today presents “SOL”, a multi-layered reflection on sun, salt and sound.

“Sun” stands for a source of energy and universal light, while “salt” symbolises the fragility and preservation of life. At the same time, “sol” refers to music, specifically to the pitch, the soloist and the transition between fourth and fifth – a symbol of change and harmony. These themes flow together in Mücke’s paintings and merge into a visual cosmos that invites the viewer to rethink space, time and their own perception
Critics recognise in Mücke’s working method a masterly balance between representationalism and free interpretation. Although what is depicted is clearly present, it eludes any clear definition, just like the complexity of existence itself. It is precisely in this floating precision between what can be said and what can be grasped intuitively that Mücke finds her unmistakable expression – both in portraits and in landscapes. The works convey an immediate vitality and testify to a deeply rooted humanism, which becomes clear in her treatment of the subjects depicted. Mücke thus succeeds in creating a visual language that allows the familiar to shine through without constricting it, and in which the seemingly tangible always harbours a hint of the infinite.

This openness opens up narratives that tell of the relationship between man and the world: from the energy of sunlight to the preservative power of salt to resonance in musical intervals. “SOL” thus becomes a poetic interface where the boundaries between the visible and the invisible become blurred. A humanistic undertone resonates in every layer of her painting, touching the core of shared experience. This exhibition is an invitation to uncover the light hidden in all things. In this way, Mücke combines sensory impressions, experiential spaces and artistic processes to create an impressive show that resonates
