until 16.10. | #5138ARTatBerlin | Galerie Gilla Lörcher shows on Friday, 11. September 2026 (Vernissage:10.09) the exhibition “Embodying space” by the artists Quentin Lefranc and Rainer Splitt.
“The works of Rainer Splitt follow their own set of principles. Radical clarity, material presence, and substantial openness characterize his powerful yet poetic floor and wall installations. Since the 1990s, the artist has consistently developed series of works that reveal him as a bridge-builder between concrete concepts and minimalist tendencies, leading with the utmost naturalness and fascinating logic to pictorial and spatial events, and surprising the viewer with gently flowing transitions between color and form.” (Text by art historian Birgit Möckel, published in 2026 in the catalog Rainer Splitt “pouring on boards.”)
Designed as a “place of study,” the architecture serves as a framework, territory, and playground for the works of Quentin Lefranc. He always creates a dialogue between the place and what he shows there. His works, which are located at the intersection of various practices, function like open brackets in space. By bringing them together or juxtaposing them, he questions what this space consists of. He experiments with its permeability, hierarchies, and history. Even though a sculptural dimension dominates, his proposals favor a field of action rather than a practice, inviting us to reflect on our existence and the act of creating a place.
