Until 05.11. | #3595ARTatBerlin | REITER | Berlin prospect presents from 14 September 2022 the group exhibition KREATUR
Is creature a swear word? What creatures are there? Is man a creature? *
The term CREATURE is ambiguous and complex. It has both positive connotations, in connection with the divine creation story (“we are all God’s creatures”), and as a contemptuous term for all forms of life (“wretched, disgusting creature”). In more recent times, one also finds value-neutral uses of the term. For example, the Swiss Constitution speaks of the “dignity of creation”, here it becomes a synonym for all earthly living beings. Ultimately, however, the term also serves as a designation for all imaginary beings, always where humans appear as creators.
