until (…) | #3354ARTatBerlin | Galerie ART CRU Berlin is now displaying the gallery’s black-painted walls instead of an exhibition. In doing so, it is sending a signal against war and for peace and showing solidarity with the people in Ukraine. The gallery for outsider art calls on others to do the same under the hashtag #solidaryartwalls.
Statement of the Galerie ART CRU Berlin:
“Herewith we set a sign of solidarity with the people in Ukraine: We have taken down our exhibition and subsequently painted the walls of our Outsider Art Gallery black. There will be no exhibition these days. We show nothing, only black surfaces. We can’t just carry on as before.
Full of fear and pain, we look in the direction of war. War brutally and ruthlessly destroys life, freedom and art. Human rights, such as those to self-determination, or to freedom of art and expression, are in great and acute danger from war and occupation. As artists and art presenters, we feel the urge to make a statement and visualise our solidarity and non-indifference with this art action. The black walls are a symbol.
We invite all Berlin galleries and museums to join in using the hashtag #solidaryartwalls, to take down their part and paint one or more walls black.”
Exhibition dates: no exhibition / action #solidaryartwalls in the gallery from Wednesday, 2 March 2022 until further notice
