until 07.01. | #0906ARTatBerlin | Galerie Barbara Weiss presents from 19th November the exhibition “Haunted Houses” by the artist Rainer Ganahl.
For his first exhibition at Galerie Barbara Weiss, the New York-based artist Rainer Ganahl (* 1961 in Bludenz, Austria) presents work from his ongoing series Manhatten Marxism.
In Manhattan Marxism, the artist combines his interest in the ideas of Karl Marx – a description of an economic sphere not detached from other parts of social life but its very foundation – with a local and personal perspective. In the exhibition the artist observes his neighborhood through this lens in two video installations and portrays constant change in a city founded as a colonial outpost of capitalism’s first global players. But Manhattan, the biggest machine of capital flows throughout the 20th century, is like many other places also a stage of continued financial crisis, and the linguistics of the dadaistic politics around it inform a so-called Credit Crunch (since 2008), a buffet merging slogans and junk food.
Vernissage: Friday, 18th November, 6 – 9 p.m.
Exhibition period: Saturday, 19th November, 2016 to Saturday 07th January 2017
