NEWS ++ Fabian Knecht | Art against the habituation to the state of emergency of war | Städtische Galerie Wolfsburg | extended until 02.06.2024

The Städtische Galerie Wolfsburg has extended the extensive solo exhibition “Der Weg des größten Widerstandes” with new works by Fabian Knecht until 2 June 2024. The Berlin-based artist’s work and actions are currently determined by the war in Ukraine. In the presentation in Wolfsburg, he deals with the topic in a powerful way using the media of installation, painting, video and performance.

Since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression in 2022, Knecht has been part of the Ukrainian resistance and has travelled to Ukraine several times as a volunteer. His journeys have taken him directly to the front in Kharkiv, Isyum, Kiev, Chernihiv and Odessa, among other places. The experiences of war that arose during his humanitarian commitment left their mark on Knecht’s artistic practice, summarised in his series of works The Way of the Greatest Resistance. “Apart from social commitment, art is the only meaningful way for me to deal with my experiences,” he says.
