until 20.06. | #0066ARTatBerlin | cubus-m is pleased to announce the first solo show of Swiss artist Jan Hostettler – ‚Ziele’ (can be translated as goals, destinations, objectives or targets) – at the gallery, which is also the artist’s first solo presentation in Germany. The exhibition (to see until 20th June 2015)  presents two new video works along with the photograhic series ‘stroll, fall’.

In his work Hostettler searches for the tension between the focussed gaze which fixes and defines the object of observation and a viewpoint which approaches things more questioningly. His works are guided by movement. He goes through the world with a watchful gaze. His interests are applied to what is around him. With small changes and simple interventions he manipulates his surroundings so that the observer inevitably has to stop and ask what is it exactly, that is being shown to me here?

Jan Hostettler (*1988) did his Fine Art BA between 2008 – 2011 at the Basel Academy of Art and Design, taking courses with Jürg Stäuble, Muda Mathis and Dr. Roman Kurzmeyer. Hostettler’s work has featured in museums and galleries in his native Switzerland such as in the Kunsthalle Basel, the Kunsthaus Baselland, the Kunsthaus Langenthal and the Solothurn Art Museum, as well as abroad. He has shown in the Castleton Downtown Gallery in Rutland, Vermont, Deuxpiece in New York, Eastern Block and Oboro Centre d’Art both in Montréal, Canada.Jan Hostettler has been awarded bursaries and grants from the Kunstverein der Stadt Solothurn, the Fine Art Prize of the Kanton Solothurn, travel grants from the Atelier Mondial and the Albert Friedrich His Stiftung in Basel and a residency at the Fonderie Darling in Montréal, Canada.

Exhibiton period: until Saturday, 20th June 2015
