until 25.02. | #3753ARTatBerlin | Gallery Z22 presents from 14 January 2023 the exhibition “Is it a bird? Back to illusion!” of the artists Andreas Blank, Jessica Strixner, Johannes Vetter and Volker Kiehn.

“I met the artists of this exhibition at fairs in Magdeburg and Karlsruhe. Impressed by their work, I decided to dedicate an exhibition to them. Each of the four works with different materials, but they have one thing in common: deceptively real replications of everyday things.

So we don’t ask ourselves, what is this, but is what I see also made of what I think I mean?”

Frank Massholder, Galerist

Andreas Blank procures the material for his sculptures from almost all parts of the world: Alabaster, marble, limestone, selenite, amazonite. Technically and conceptually, his objects of deception are convincing. Everyday life finds itself on a pedestal.

Jessi Strixner, born in 1992, lives and works in Munich.
In her works, she deals with clothing and its effect. She draws the viewer directly and unadorned into an intimate moment.
In an almost voyeuristic way, we observe the carelessly hung up pieces of clothing. From a simple tennis sock to an almost fetish-like bra, it is left to the viewer to form an image of the wearer. Furthermore, for Jessi Strixner, clothing is a means of expression in our society with which we can associate ourselves with different groups, make political statements and underline our personality. She isolates the garment from the wearer and thus reduces it to the statement it contains. The garments, made from one piece of wood, thus take on an iconic character.

Johannes Vetter is a painter and sculptor. Represented here with some of his hyper-realistic paintings, which tempt the viewer to want to grab them.

Volker Kiehn lives and works in Magdeburg. A welcome guest at the gallery, this time he shows his airy and light-looking PILLOWS, visually a mixture of balloons and pillows, but made neither of rubber nor of fabric filled with feathers, but of metal.

Nothing is what it seems at first glance.

Vernissage: Saturday, 14. January 2023, 7:00 to 10:00 pm
