One-single-artwork-show #5: Iris Musolf

Make-Up, Mascara, Nail Polish, Lacquer on Paper

„Which symptoms of society can manifest themselves in blown-up surfaces? How much depth is there to an air-filled casing or to a photograph of a runway model? In which way will I have to alter the visual presence in order to make the responses change as well?
My obsession is with trivial merchandise and throw-away items that reveal a world of optimized surfaces, unsubstantial fun, and colorful images. By subjecting these items to different materialities, I bestow upon them an archaeological persistence that in turn seems to fade immediately. Shining symbols of lightness, joy, and even superficial consumerism are thus transformed into thought objects.
As a layer of pure make up is peeled off, the unimproved body of the model begins to uncannily resemble the tattered undead. My preoccupation with this process is to determine how changes in material can visualize social and psychological qualities, along with human failures and deformities.“ (Iris Musolf)
