On the last weekend of June, 50 Norwegian and German artists will occupy the former women’s prison The Knast in Berlin-Lichterfelde.
The artists who come together for the exhibition Freigänger will enter their prison cells and transform them into artistic spaces with site-specific projects comprising visual art, sculpture, installations, video, sound and performance.
The prison forms the contextual and physical framework for this exhibition, but the invited artists* remain free in their artistic reactions. Both the exhibition and the publication reflect different forms of imprisonment and imprisonment, but also the inevitable question: What does it really mean to be free? …
