until 31.01. | #1728ARTatBerlin | Galerie Pugliese Levi presents from 12th December 2017 the exhibition “Snow, Slow” with paintings and drawings by the artist Xiaohua.

Galerie Pugliese Levi shows works of the Chinese artist Xiaohua. Reaching beyond traditional painting techniques, the artist opens up the surfaces of the rough canvasses and papers for inner worlds beneath the surface. Stitching, in particular, as an alternative way to painting, contributes to environments characterized by exquisite colour ranges, subtle balance and an atmosphere that is both assured and open. From very large to very small sizes, from elaborate to minimal arrangements, the seemingly diverse artistic means are many ways of opening spaces.

Constantly searching for compatibility between apparently unrelated objects and materials, always on the quest for an equilibrium and some kind of “right balance of things”, Xiaohua’s wish is to reach “togetherness” through the acceptance of difference. “My work is my dream of a simple world, it is related to my past and to my experiences,” says the artist, “it is an unrealistic fantasy set against real life.”
