until 13.01. | #4109ARTatBerlin | Galerie Z22 shows from 02. December 2023 the exhibition “Lounge – waiting for the bus” by the artist Wilfred Schwerin von Krosigk.

The lounge is never the destination. It is a stopover for travellers, a frozen moment in time. The visitor is anonymous, fleeting and blurred. The function of the space determines and characterises it.

The space signifies expectation and promise. But it also harbours a subliminal threat. Light, shadows and perspectives hint at mysterious scenarios. Things rebel against their purpose, machines take on a life of their own, misty wisps of figures waft past like movements in the corner of the eye, setting the subconscious on alert. Is the traveller the hunted? Is he a victim or a perpetrator? The viewer projects his own fears into the scenery.

The lounge is the totality of the lounge images. The individual image is a snapshot, a random piece of information that catches the viewer’s eye, only to be immediately replaced by new impressions. The lounge is chaos, a space of media overload. Which impressions become engraved in the consciousness, what falls victim to oblivion, is subject to chance, the feelings and experiences of the viewer. The lounge becomes his own world, he himself becomes a traveller.
